when retailer gives you lemons

you certainly need to know that 'Lemon Laws' is put into effect from 1st september 2012 in singapore

'Lemon Laws' refer to consumer protection laws that provide remedies for consumers against defective goods, colloquially known as “lemons”, within 6 months of delivery.  These are goods that fail to meet standards of quality and performance, even after repeated repair.

interestingly, perishables, consumables, second-hand goods, and discounted goods are also covered! except..real property and rental/leased goods!

this mean under the existing law, consumer is entitled to have retailer repair the goods or even reject the goods and obtain a refund when they are not of satisfactory quality at the time of delivery. basically, retailer may offer to repair or replace the rejected goods, or offer full refund if the item has never worked (beware: the refund amount may be reduced to take into account the use that the consumer has had of the goods; which i think it is fair to retailer).

depends on which sides you are at, but i believe the implementation of lemon laws will ensure goods sold match their description or are fit for purpose. i wonder if it applies to pirated DVDs :D
